Another star of the West End run of smash musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is coming to Aberdeen with the show.
Shobna Gulati, of Coronation Street fame, will be joining her London co-stars, Layton Williams and Shane Richie, at His Majesty’s Theatre in April next year.
And joining the UK tour will be dance star George Sampson, winner of Britain’s Got Talent.
Based on a true story, it tells of a 16-year-old drag queen from a Sheffield council estate who overcomes prejudice and beats the bullies when he asks a documentary maker to chronicle his life.
Aberdeen Performing Arts chief executive Jane Spiers said: “To have Shobna and George added to the already amazingly talented cast, including Layton Williams and Shane Richie, for the Aberdeen shows just adds to the anticipation and excitement.
“The story and songs in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie speak for themselves, but to have the West End cast along to bring it to life on HMT’s stage will be very special.”
With an original score of catchy pop tunes by lead singer-songwriter of The Feeling Dan Gillespie Sells and writer Tom MacRae, the show has won eight major theatre awards and was nominated for five Olivier Awards.
Nica Burns, producer of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, said: “We are delighted that our first national tour of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is packed with West End stars.
“It’s fantastic to welcome George Sampson, who shot to fame as the youngest person to win Britain’s Got Talent at the tender age of 14.
“Together they will give you a fun, funny and fabulous evening.”
As well as appearing in the West End and touring version, Shobna is to star in an upcoming film version of Everybody Is Talking About Jamie. The stage show will be at HMT from April 28 to May 2.
