A theatre performance which brings humour to childbirth takes place in Aberdeen tonight.
WILD, a comedy by touring drama group The Birth Project, uses funny sketches about real-life stories from pregnancy to motherhood.
Performers and writers of WILD, Laura Mugridge and Katie Villa, worked with women and birth professionals to discover the real stories everyone has to bring the play to life.
Laura said: “Everyone has a birth story. So why aren’t we talking about them more? Even if we don’t give birth ourselves, the chances are high that at some point we are going to be in close contact with someone who has.
“WILD tackles a big, messy topic from a very personal point of view.”
Katie added: “Talking about birth feels like it doesn’t need to be this hard. What if we could change that? What if we got rid of the pressure?
“It feels like we don’t have the right words for something so complex and individual.”
WILD is on stage at Aberdeen Arts Centre tonight, with doors opening from 6pm. It is the group’s last show for spring. The performance contains references to birth, trauma and post-natal illness.
Tickets cost £7.50 and are available online at www.rguunion.co.uk/shop/product/10006920/.
