Kevin Clifton is coming to Aberdeen in his first starring musical theatre role since leaving Strictly Come Dancing.
The pro dancer, who picked up the Glitterball in 2018, will star in the stage version of Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom The Musical.
The show, directed by Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood, will arrive at His Majesty’s Theatre in March next year.
Kevin, who announced he was leaving the BBC dance show after seven years to move into musical theatre, said he was thrilled to be playing central character Scott Hastings.
“I’m beyond excited to be finally fulfilling a lifelong ambition to play Scott Hastings in Strictly Ballroom The Musical,” he said.
“When I was 10 years old I first watched the movie that would become my favourite film of all time. This is my dream role.
“Plus, I get to work with Craig Revel Horwood again! I really can’t wait to don the golden jacket and waltz all over the UK from September this year in what’s set to be an incredible show!”
Based on Baz Lurhmann’s iconic film set in the world of ballroom dancing in Australia, the show follows talented but rebellious young dancer Scott, who falls foul of Australian Federation.
He finds himself dancing with Fran, a dowdy beginner, but together they defy convention and their families.
The musical brings to life iconic songs, including Love is in the Air, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps and Time After Time with dynamic and joyous verve. This tour will also feature new songs by internationally acclaimed artists including Sia, David Foster and Eddie Perfect.
Kevin joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2013, performing in the final five times and was crowned Strictly Champion in 2018. He’s a world-class professional dancer, former Youth World Number One and four-time British Latin Champion and has won international open titles all over the world. His musical theatre roles saw him star in Rock Of Ages at His Majesty’s last year.
Strictly Ballroom The Musical will be at HMT from March 22 to 27, 2021.
