Look out your pom-poms… a musical version of cult cheerleading film Bring It On is heading for Aberdeen.
The high-energy show will be at His Majesty’s Theatre in September, starring Love Island winner Amber Davies and four-time Olympic medal winning gymnast and Strictly Come Dancing winner, Louis Smith.
Bring It On The Musical boasts an original score by the creator of musical sensation Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and theatre bosses expect tickets to be snapped up when they go on sale next week.
Ben Torrie, Aberdeen Performing Arts’ director of programming and creative projects, said: “The film is fast taking on ‘cult classic’ status, and it will be brilliant to see it brought to life on stage in Aberdeen.
“Amber and Louis, along with the rest of the cast, are sure to give the show an injection of high energy and bags of talent. Bring on September, it can’t come quick enough!”
The show at HMT from September 15-19, is billed as a high-flying, energy-fuelled journey which tackles friendship, jealousy, betrayal and forgiveness – wrapped up in explosive choreography and tricks.
Based on the 2000 film, starring Kirsten Dunce, it follows the story of cheerleading royalty, Campbell who is forced to move to a neighbouring hardknock high school where she thinks her life is over.
But an unlikely friendship sees her back in contention with a powerhouse cheerleading squad.
Amber, who will play Campbell, has carved a career in musical theatre since her Love Island win and was last in Aberdeen wowing audiences and critics in the musical, 9 To 5.
As wells as being an Olympian and Strictly star, Louis who will play Cameron – has appeared in Rip It Up in both the West End and on tour.
Tickets will go on sale to Friends of APA on Thursday March 12 and to the general public from Friday March 13.
