It’s Coeliac Awareness Week and charity Coeliac UK is driving awareness of the condition which affects so many people right here in the north-east.
Gluten-free might be a food trend for some, but for one in 100 people in the UK it’s a life-long condition with unpleasant and uncomfortable symptoms.
According to Coeliac UK, Almost half a million people live with symptoms of coeliac disease and don’t know what’s wrong. So this week, if you know anyone who may have symptoms, ask them to see their GP for a blood test which can confirm the condition.

Charity Coeliac UK is also encouraging anyone who has IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and has not been tested for the disease to visit their GP and ask to be tested, too.
A common problem among those who do suffer from the condition and those who must maintain a gluten-free diet, is the hard task of finding gluten-free friendly food and drink.
With that in mind, we’ve pulled together our guide for gluten-free beers you can enjoy.
