Dan Vegas is the brand executive of Aberdeen-based CASC Bar.
A self-confessed whisky enthusiast, he is one of the nine-strong team who works at the venue which specialises in quality cigars, craft beer, Scotch whisky and even artisan coffee.
Providing an ever-changing tap list and extensive range of spirits from around the world, we caught up with the drinks specialist to put him through our round of quick fire questions.
What’s your customer icebreaker?
When someone approaches the bar, I say hello and ask them how they are to make sure they feel welcome.
It’s the end of your shift – what do you pour yourself?
Since I only work day shift now and can get away with having a drink afterwards, I normally go for whatever my favourite beer is on the board that day. Otherwise, I’d choose a regular from one of our permanent wheat beer lines.
If you were a drink, what would you be?
A Manhattan cocktail.
Most unusual drink request?
I did have someone come in once and ask for a Guinness shandy. We don’t even serve Guinness here, so I had to improvise with it.
What would the theme song to your average shift be?
The Hawaii Five-0 theme song.
What’s in your drinks cabinet at home?
A bottle of Glendronach 12, Talisker Skye and a few more of my favourite whiskies.
Best food and drink pairing?
One of our new burgers that’ll be a part of our upcoming food menu, paired with a really nice stout beer.
If you were stuck on a desert island, what three drinks are there with you?
Springbank 15, Evil Twin Even More Jesus and Pilot Vienna Pale, purely because they’re three of my favourite drinks and I’m not really the biggest fan of water.
You have to make a drink to represent Aberdeen. What would that be?
A white chocolate milk stout made with lactose, because everyone in Aberdeen likes to be that little bit extra.
Your favourite superhero/celebrity is sitting at the bar. Who is it and what do you serve them?
It would have to be my favourite musician Tom Waits. I would serve him a very large whisky because I know he drinks Chivas Regal.
