When we think of Valentine’s date night make-up, the first colour that likely comes to mind is red.
Showing us that red isn’t necessarily the only colour we should be focusing on this Valentine’s Day is Bobbi Brown make-up artist Leanne Cathcart.
Situated within John Lewis in the Bon Accord shopping centre in Aberdeen, Leanne, who has 20 years’ experience in the beauty industry, says pink and nudes are probably the wiser choice when heading out on a date.
A soft, glowing and fresh-faced, Leanne wanted to create a more natural look for date night.
She said: “When you think of Valentine’s you usually think of a bold red lip and a strong eye look. We wanted to go against that a bit and do something a little softer with a focus on less is more.
“I recently looked at statistics that said people prefer to see a more natural make-up look, making this soft glam look perfect for date night, a night out with the girls or even a trip to the cinema or something like that.”
Not just a look for Valentine’s Day, Leanne says this glowy, make-up style using matte shades is also anticipated to be very popular in spring.
“We did a cut crease look on the eyes so it’s brighter on the lid and more defined at the crease,” said Leanne.
“By using a little more depth and definition in the crease of the eye, you can create a little more space and openness on the eyelid.
“Brightening up the eyelid makes it look bigger and it’s a technique most eye shapes can handle. It’s definitely a look that will be trendy for spring.”
Using Bobbi Brown’s recently-launched Haute Nudes Edition eye shadow palette and the crushed liquid lip products, Leanne is excited about the new products that not only look good, but are great for your skin.
She said: “The new lip colour has the coverage of a lipstick, the care of a balm and the glide of a gloss.
The benefit is it doesn’t have the stickiness and the colour pigment is much stronger so you get longer colour wear. At this time of year the weather is a little colder so everyone’s lips are dry, this is the perfect way to nourish lips.”
Of course, Bobbi Brown isn’t the only place in the Bon Accord centre you will love for Valentine’s Day. Housing more than 70 different stores Bon Accord is the perfect one-stop-shop for all your beauty, gifts and fashion needs, all year round.
But if you want get the look of love today, you can recreate Leanne’s ultimate Valentine’s style by following these easy steps.
How to do the eyes:
Use a long-wear eye base on the eyelids to help the longevity of wear for the powder eye-shadow.
Use the cream shadow and then use Tulle Sweet and Rose Suede (dusty pinks) in the crease of the eye. We’ve used the matte colours to give it a more casual feel.
Keeping the lid of the eye bright, we used the lightest colour of long-wear eye base and went over the top with the Lame (gold glitter) shade to add a bit of shimmer. The little bit of the sparkle shadow on the lid just as an accent.
At the lash line use sepia long-wear gel eyeliner and some Vintage Velvet to blend. This will help give the lashes a little more definition. (If you do wear eyelash extensions or false eyelashes then blend them into the lash line).
How to do the lips/cheeks:
For the lips, use a slightly darker lip liner with a lighter lip colour.
Apply the lip colour of your choosing (nude or pink) and then fill it in with the darker lip liner. Doing this gives a little more definition and fullness to the lip and is a good way to intensify the lip.
Blend the two colours together to create the perfect nude or pink.
I used a chocolate lip liner with the pink Juicy Date lipstick, but for a nude look use a nude lip pencil with the Lychee lip colour.
For the cheeks, pair your lip and cheek colour so they sit quite harmoniously and it allows the eyes to pop a little more. Add some blush in your desired colour, we used a pink blush for this look.
