Aberdeen’s Helen Ruth Scarves will release new sleep masks just in time for Christmas.
The talented creative, who is best known for making colourful silk scarves, was looking for ways to upcycle her leftover fabric scraps.
She said: “These are generally small strips of material that run along the edge of scarves, so I needed to design something that was small enough to fit in this small strip of material and that’s how the eye mask idea came about.
“I love drawing faces and eyes in particular – most of my designs have faces in them somewhere – so I wanted to highlight these and make a product that featured them.
“They are meant to be fun and a bit wild – like a wild animal masked ball!”
In addition to sleep masks (£20), Helen will also launch glasses cases (£20) and notebooks (£10 – £15).
She said: “I’ve also been working with a company called Kapdaa Offcut who collect off-cut materials from designers and turn them into beautiful functional pieces.
“They have created silk covered glasses cases and notebooks for me as well, so I’m really pleased to have this new range of products I can offer for Christmas gift ideas that are not only pretty and functional, but have this sustainable element to them as well.”
The new products will be launched on Friday on Helen’s website and she will also sell her sleep masks at contemporary craft and design market Flock which takes place this weekend.
