The best thing about Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear – and with a line-up of events as packed as this, Aberdeen has a lot to cheer about.
From the Christmas Village opening today, to the Christmas Tree Switch-On, to Charlie House’s Santa Fun Run and Christmas in the Quad making its return once again, the city is bursting with events for everyone to enjoy.
Here’s some of Christmas events taking place over the next few weeks in the city centre.
Aberdeen Christmas Village – Today until Tuesday 31 December, Broad Street
The Aberdeen Christmas Village is back and bigger than ever. Put on in partnership with Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen Inspired and Codona’s Amusement Park we can’t wait to try out all the new installments and the updated food and drink offering. Expect an ice rink, a Christmas Market and amusements and attractions suitable for all ages.

Christmas in the Quad – Marischal College Quadrangle
The local producers market is back for a second year and with a weekly change in exhibitors, it’s the perfect place to do some Christmas shopping. From artisan crafts, arts and gifts as well as a range of gourmet food and drink open-air festive wooden cabins there’s plenty for all to enjoy. For more click here.

Christmas Tree Switch-On – Castlegate, Tonight at 7pm – free
Head down to Castlegate tonight to see the Christmas tree light up Aberdeen once again. Entertainment will be provided by Tutti Voices (Aberdeen Performing Arts), who are part of the APA Creative Learning programme, and Gospelkoret Abraham a choir group from Stavanger.
Charlie House Santa Fun Run – Union Street, Sunday at 5.15pm
Fancy running down Union Street dressed as Santa? Then you’ll want to sign up for this fun run. Not only will you have a ball, but you’ll also be helping to support a local cause.

Christmas Lights Switch-On – Union Street, Sunday at 5.30pm – free
A historical themed-parade will lead the charge at the Aberdeen Christmas lights switch on. Celebrating the 700th anniversary of the signing of the Stocket Charter, King Robert the Bruce will be joined by members of the Medieval Realm re-enactment group as knights, foot soldiers and peasants parading under torch light down Union Street.
The parade will also feature:
- Santa and Rudolph
- Panto characters
- A number of festive floats
- Festive street entertainers
- Local charities
- Sports groups and community organisations all led by the Grampian and District Pipes and Drums.
Twelve Days of Christmas Sculpture Trail – Sunday December 1 to Tuesday December 24 – free
See if you can find the twelve unique totem pole sculptures which have been placed all over the city centre. Created by local chainsaw wood carver Gary Shand, the carvings depict the popular carol
Nativity Scene – St Nicholas Kirkyard, Monday December 2 at 11am – free
It is open all day every day until Tuesday January 7, 2020.
Carol Concerts – David Welch Winter Gardens, Duthie Park, Saturday December 14 at 11am and 2pm – free
Sing along with Bon Accord Silver band and Coro Piccolo as they perform much-loved carols. The Granite City Chorus will provide entertainment on arrival and The Friends of Duthie Park will be accepting food bank donations in aid of CFINE.
Hogmanay Celebrations – Schoolhill – Tuesday December 31 from 9.00pm with fireworks at midnight – free
Bring in the bells in style this year in the city centre at the ultimate festive party. Three top-class music acts will be entertain guests at Aberdeen’s Hogmanay celebrations from 9pm, closing the city’s festivities with a stunning fireworks display to mark the New Year.
